A 93rd-minute equalizer from substitute Aidan Rutledge spared Darlington’s blushes as the Quakers fought back to earn a dramatic 1–1 draw against Merthyr Town at Blackwell Meadows.
In a match defined by defensive injuries and high late-game tension, Darlington showed resilience to rescue a point in front of their home crowd.
Darlington’s defensive line suffered a double blow midway through the opening half. Centre-half Toby Lees was forced off injured after 25 minutes, only for his replacement, Brad Walker, to pull up just seven minutes later.
Taking advantage of Darlington's makeshift backline, Merthyr Town broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time when Sam Pearson slotted home in the 45+1' minute to give the visitors a 1–0 lead going into the break.
Darlington pushed hard in the second half, bringing on Aidan Rutledge in the 62nd minute. The tactical change paid off in the 93rd minute (90+3) when Rutledge fired home to equalize.
